President to Survey California Wildfire Recovery Efforts

Governor Newsom extends invitation.

California Governor Gavin Newsom says he stands “ready to work” with the federal government ahead of President Donald Trump’s visit to Los Angeles this week.

“As our nation observes the peaceful transfer of power, we are reminded of the enduring principles that underpin our democracy: finding common ground and striving toward shared goals,” Governor Newsom said on Monday.

“In the face of one of the worst natural disasters in America’s history, this moment underscores the critical need for partnership, a shared commitment to facts, and mutual respect — values that enable civil discourse, effective governance, and meaningful action,” he continued.

The newly inaugurated president has criticized California officials’ handling of the wildfires devastating California. Governor Newsom invited President Trump to visit the state to see response efforts, and the president agreed.

“I’m going to go out there on Friday to see it and to get it moving back,” President Trump said Sunday. “We’re going to get some of the best builders in the world. We’ll get it moving back.”

As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…

  • For wisdom for President Trump as he addresses the risk of wildfires in California.
  • For Governor Newsom to be receptive to improvements in wildfire prevention.
  • For U.S. Forest Service officials as they steward the nation’s forests.
